Nail Polish Haul

This week I've added five new polishes to my collection. I bought two OPI shades on eBay last month (my first OPI's, by the way), and they finally arrived on Friday. It took two freaking weeks for my order to go from Texas to California--grumble, grumble--but I digress...

I got Don't Bossa Nova Me Around and My Boyfriend Scales Walls for $6.95 each with free shipping. My Boyfriend Scales Walls is a white polish with the tiniest drop of gray in it, so rather than it being the standard shockingly bright white, this shade should be more wearable. And I continue to want to expand my collection of nudes, so I went with DBNMA because I like the dusty, putty-like pink vibe it has going on. Both of these shades were highly recommended by my favorite Youtuber (Nicole/Young Wild and Polished), so into my collection they go. Here's a link to Nicole's nail polish videos: Young Wild and Polished.

[NYC] Tudor City Teal, Lexington Lilac, [Pop-arazzi] Sugar Spun

And then I stopped by a local CVS after work one night and picked up three more polishes. All of their NYC cosmetics were buy one/get one 50% off, so I picked up Tudor City Teal and Lexington Lilac. These polishes are regularly only $0.99 each anyway, so it was only $1.48 for two. I love the way these two shades look together, and I know they'll be great in Spring. And then I decided to try something from the new Pop-arazzi line CVS is carrying, so I decided on Sugar Spun, which was also recommended by YWP. I'm a little pissed that I missed the $0.99 sale they were having on these a couple weeks back, but I got Sugar Spun for $2.49, which is still inexpensive, and the purchase qualified me to receive $1.50 in their Extra Bucks Rewards, which I think is just a coupon I can apply toward my next purchase. I've always been a little confused on how their loyalty program works, so we'll see. If Sugar Spun works out well maybe I'll go back and use my coupon on another shade from this line. All of the reviews I've found have been favorable.

Tudor City Teal (crappy lighting, I know)

UPDATE: After posting this I started swatching the colors and the Pop-arazzi polish (Sugar Spun) totally sucked! I returned it. The formula was terrible: super streaky, not self-leveling, just awful. The color was pretty, but it wasn't pretty enough to be worth it. So, I poked around at CVS, hoping they had more NYC colors I wanted (they didn't), so I stopped by the Wet N Wild display and picked up two things, a whitish-pink in the Megalast line called Sugar Coat, and their Wildshine Matte Top Coat (were they trying to be ironic by putting it in that line, btw?).

Wet N Wild's Sugar Coat and Matte Top Coat
I had read online that there may be a nail polish "hack" to fixing streaky polish by applying a one thin coat of the polish, a matte top coat on top, and then another coat of the polish again afterward, so I am going to try it out. Generally I am not a fan of matte nails, so I won't be taking too big of a loss if this hack doesn't work because it was only $0.99. Sugar Coat was $1.99, and I did a quick swatch at home (and a quick Google search in the store) and although it's sheer, the formula is a million times better than Sugar Spun. Not that I want to dog too hard on the Pop-arazzi line, because I've heard that some of their formulas are better than others, but with a retail of $2.49 I'd much rather wait until CVS has another sale before trying a different shade. And the awesome thing is that when I went to return Sugar Spun the cashier (for some reason) gave me back my $1.50 Extra Bucks coupon (even though the only reason I qualified for it was for buying the Pop-arazzi shade in the first place), so I used it toward my Wet N Wild purchase, which meant I got two bottles of polish for less than the one I returned. Very cool!

So, that's it for now! Next time I post I think it'll be my base coat and top coat favorites. Until then, happy polishing!
