My Top 5 Favorite Essie Polishes

There's a tag going around on Instagram challenging you to pick your top five Essie shades of all time (#only5essies), and while this is an extremely difficult task I somehow managed to pick mine and decided to blog about it so I could go more into depth on why I chose the colors that I did.

First of all, let me say that my Essie collection really isn't very big. I own about 35-40 bottles at the moment, which actually pales in comparison to some other gals out there. After thinking about the tag for a while I decided that the best way for me to measure which polishes would make it into my top five would be to base it on the "it" factor.... They would have to be polishes that give me that special feeling when I put them on---you know that feeling, the one where you feel smitten and can't stop staring at your hands?

So, with the barometer set I began my quest to identify my top five Essie polishes. Let me just say that there are some really great shades in my collection that didn't make the cut, and I know there are some shades out there that I don't own yet that would most definitely be on this list. Suffice it to say that this list is a living, breathing organism that undoubtedly will change over time. But, without further adieu, here are my (current) top five Essie polishes, in no particular order (this post contains affiliate links)...

Romper Room. Let the record show that I have a weakness for pink nail polish. There is no way I could have a top five list without having a baby pink in it because it's safe to say that those shades of pink polish are my favorite shades to wear. I love pastel anything and Romper Room has been a top pick of mine since the very beginning of my nail polishing adventures. Now, obviously Essie has quite a few pale pinks that are huge cult favorites, but for me Romper Room has continually been the one that I love the most in my collection. I also own Fiji and Peak Show, but my bottle of Fiji is annoying to apply, and I haven't worn Peak Show as a full manicure yet, but I like that Romper Room is more pink. Also, my bottle of Romper Room actually has a pretty decent formula for being a pale pink (shades like this notoriously have terrible formulas), which may be at odds with what you hear from other people, so maybe I just got lucky with my bottle. Anyway, I love Romper Room so very much, it's the perfect quintessential pastel pink.

Groove is in the Heart. When I put this one on for the first time, I swear, I had heart palpitations. It's just so pretty (insert crying emoji)! Groove is in the Heart was released with the Summer 2015 Neons collection, and while it's not exactly a true neon, it is fairly bright pink that's flattering on many different skin tones. When I was picking my top five I had a really tough time deciding between this and Van D'Go, but in the end GIITH won, which is saying a lot because I LOVE Van D'Go and feel awful leaving it off of this list. Compared to one another GIITH is more pink, whereas Van D'Go is a touch more peach. Now, to be fair, the formula on GIITH is not the best ever, but it's not a deal breaker for me, personally. The beauty of the shade itself makes any struggle with application 100% worth it, in my opinion. It's a little bit tricky to try to capture the color in pictures, but it's just a stunner, and it has my heart.

Blossom Dandy. Mint green is one of my favorite colors, so when you find that perfect shade of mint polish and it has a killer formula, you know you've got a winner. Blossom Dandy is one of two shades in my top five that came out of the Spring 2015 Collection, which was a really cool collection of colors. I know a lot of people are as obsessed with Blossom Dandy as I am, and it's for good reason. It's a very rich shade of mint green, not too dark, yet not too pastel either. Obviously the big comparison to this one is the green-toned Mint Candy Apple, which I didn't select in my top five simply because I personally enjoy the color of Blossom Dandy more. And, of course, Blossom Dandy also wins in the formula category, although my bottle of MCA has a pretty good formula too (a lot of people mentioned that their bottles of MCA had bad formulas when I posted a picture of it on Instagram recently, but my bottle is fine. Maybe I've just had good luck finding flukes?). Anyway, Blossom Dandy's formula is just a little bit better than MCA, it's a little bit smoother to apply and more opaque. It's just wonderful, and is the perfect on-trend mint to add to your collection.

Flowerista. The other polish in my top five hailing from the Spring 2015 Collection, Flowerista is an opaque plum beauty. This color! Even looking at the picture now makes me so happy. It's so gorgeous! I honestly don't wear deeper shades of nail polish enough and I don't know why because I love them. This was one polish that I knew was going into my top five right away because it's just that special. The formula is perfection, literal perfection. I've said this before, but this is the best sort of nail polish because if you're looking to pull out something beautiful that you can rely on for a quick and easy application, Flowerista's got you covered. I cannot rave enough about this one. If you don't already own Flowerista do yourself a favor and pick up a bottle. You won't be sorry.

Bahama Mama. Last, but certainly not least, is the wonderfully vampy Bahama Mama. This is another shade that I didn't have to think twice about---I knew it was going into my top five immediately. The color of this polish is very interesting, in certain lights it can pull very plum, and in others it's just a straight burgundy. It's a dark, saturated shade that has an incredibly shiny natural finish, which I really enjoy. Admittedly, I need more dark Essie shades in my collection, and after picking this one up I fully understand why it's such a cult classic. This one makes me so excited for Fall! It's a great polish, and I highly recommend adding it to your collection.
